Mr. George Ryoji Katsumoto was a hard worker his entire life. There were hardships he faced during his life, but through all of it he always seemed to be easy going and calm. He enjoy talking to random people in the neighborhood and could make friends easily.
He enjoyed walking the dog outside, but it seemed more like a way to talk to as many people as possible.
He was a skilled carpenter and could make a table into a chair, build sheds, porches, fences, and additions to the house. Everything he built was made to last. One habit he had was that he liked to use extra nails, screws, glue, etc… which made it difficult to take things apart, but made the items last forever. He preferred repairing electrical and damaged items as opposed to purchasing new items.
My dad was a unique story teller, though sometimes the stories didn't make sense until we asked questions. One particular story was about taking a "free trip". At the time he was young, and eventually learned that the “free trip” was actually a timeshare vacation. A valuable lesson was learned; that nothing is free.
After retirement he travelled with his wife Miyoko in their 5th wheel trailer visiting places all across Canada. From Alaska, to New Mexico, to Japan, dad loved to travel.
He joined a garden club where he enjoyed gardening and trying his hand at making fruits and vegetables like corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and zucchinis. We would always joke regardless of what size or ripeness the fruits and vegetables were, he would always bring them home. Dad’s reasoning was that he didn't want to waste any food. We would say to him, you are good at making compost soil, since many of the fruits and vegetables would end up in the compost bin.
The name George was perfect for him, as he was a very curious person.
Mr. George Ryoji Katsumoto is survived by his wife, Miyoko, his two sons, Andy and Rob, as well as many friends and family.
