OBITUARY

Mrs. Sachiko (Sakamoto) Akune

December 4, 1933 – December 21, 2025
Obituary of Mrs. Sachiko (Sakamoto) Akune
IN THE CARE OF

Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park

Sachi, a loving wife and grandmother, passed away peacefully at age 92 (Burnaby, BC). Loved and cherished by husband Akiyoshi (1929 - 2018), children - Ruth, Tim (Marianne), Connie (David LD), and grandchildren - Nolan (Jessica), Dallin, Catie.

She was born in Prince Rupert to parents Kichie and Fuji, who owned and operated a tailoring business. Predeceased by parents, and brothers: Yoshitaka, Yoshiro, and sister Aiko. At the onset of the war, she was sent to Japan at the age of 4, along with her sister, Aiko, to be raised by family, Auntie Tsune. Sachi recalls growing sweet potatoes, oats, wheat, and some rice on their family plot. She returned to Canada in 1948 at the age of 15, and completed high school at Van Tech. It was while working in her father's tailor shop on Hastings Street that she caught the eye of a shy, young fisherman who had to go "in and out" several times before mustering up the courage to ask her out. After a few walks in the park and fresh flowers, the rest is history.

Sachi will be remembered lovingly as "Granma" who made a point to be in the stands of her grandkids' sports events, drama productions, and music performances. She always had a hot pot of tea and coffee cake to welcome any visitors. She will be remembered for her warm smiles, quick wit, and homespun goodness.

Granma, your legacy has been imprinted on our hearts. Rest in peaceful reunion with Granpa.

For all wishing to pay respects, the family will have an Open house on Sat. Jan. 24, 12.00 - 6.00 PM at 6611 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby. For online condolences, please visit the Ocean View Funeral Home website. No flowers or koden pls.
