Serafina Sanders

Passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, March 3, 2017. Born December 30, 1930 in Supino, Italy to Antonio Nalli and Amerinda Paluzzi. Predeceased by her husband Frederick in 2000 and her parents, sister Ida & brother Silvestre in Italy. She moved to Rome at the age of 12 to live with her aunt. She worked there first as a nanny and then spent 12 years as a nurse's assistant in a private maternity hospital. She came to Canada in 1962 to Vancouver and then to visit her sister in Gibsons. There she found work at Danny's restaurant as a cook. She met her husband Fred in Gibsons and they married Jan 22, 1965. Her only son James was born that December. She loved gardening, cooking but especially being a mother. Fred and Serafina moved to Vancouver in 1994 to be closer to James and his wife Joan, who was expecting her first grandchild. She lived for her grandchildren and was constantly around them. Alzhemiers began to show in 2010 but she continued to live on her own until 2012. She was a fighter until the end. A loving mother and cherished Nonna, Serafina will be dearly missed by her son James, daughter-in-law Joan, grandchildren Jordan and Jessica, sisters, Maria(in Italy), Franca, Luciana (Franco), Rosanna and Asunita. She had many nieces ,nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews who will miss her, in particular : Dina, Tony, Laura N, Laura S, Alex, Giulio, Josie & Mauro & their spouses and children. The family would like to thank the staff at Dufferin Care Centre for their compassion and care of Serafina. A visitation will be held on Saturday March 11 from 12:45 – 1:15 pm at Ocean View Funeral Home 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby where a Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm in the Chapel. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park – South Mausoleum. Reception to be held directly afterwards. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
