Shamus Patrick Mulhern

August 26, 1988June 18, 2020

It is with a broken heart that I share the news of my son’s death. Shamus passed away on Thursday, June 18th, 2020 in Vancouver at the age of 31. He was predeceased by his grandfather Kevin Mulhern (Poppy). He is survived by his grandmother Theresa (Nanny), me - his mom Patricia, his aunts Maryann, Shannon (Chris), and Georgina, his uncles Noel, John (Mai), and Kevin, cousins Katie, James, Charlotte and Leah, his cousin/godfather Michael (Percy), numerous family members of Mulherns and McEacherns, and his special friend Marcela.

Shamus was very close to his grandparents having lived with them for the first few years of his life. Nobody loved him more than his grandparents. He attended Shaughnessy Elementary and then attended Vancouver College in high school. Although he graduated from Killarney Secondary, he always considered VC his high school. Being a Mulhern, sports were very important to Shamus. He loved golf (could drive a ball over 300 yards) and basketball. Shamus was also a huge Kobe Bryant fan. He was a quiet, gentle child who teachers and coaches enjoyed. He had a good sense of humour combined with a sensitive side. He became a barber in the past year and even coloured and cut his nanny’s and my hair.

Mental health and addiction issues plagued my son for much of his adult years. Many people tried to help Shamus but he lost the battle on June 18th. I love and thank you all for your efforts. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saints Peter and Paul Parish; 1430 West 38th, Vancouver, on Tuesday, June 30th at 11:00 am. The mass will be on Zoom. Please contact Georgina at g.sassy1@gmail.com for information. In lieu of flowers and casseroles :), donations to the Salvation Army Harbour Light would be greatly appreciated. Shamus ended up there a few times. They are a great bunch of people working on the frontlines. Please contact Kaine Rice at 604-314-3208 for Memorial Donations. I want to thank all the people who have reached out with love and support during this time. I also want to thank my Principal Natasha and the entire Jamieson community. May you find peace at last, Honeybaby. xo Mom

Dear Patricia,
Please accept our sincere condolences on Shamus’ passing. There were many days that Shamus was part of what we were doing, whether it was playing basketball as part of RBL, or just visiting and playing ball with Hunter and others.
Words are so difficult at this time because we knew Shamus as a wonderful boy, easy to be around and with a quiet smile on his face.
We wish you peace, dear Patricia.
Love, David and Lyn

Shamus, I will always remember playing ball in eighth grade and the fun times we had. I was so happy when you came to Killarney as I knew we were getting an amazing basketball player. As talented as you were as a basketball player you were a kind and gentle hearted person, who was a good friend

I am grateful to have known you as a friend, rest easy brother

Countless summer days spent on a variety of courts around Vancouver and at the JCC where we became friends. I will never forget the laughs, memories and joy you got from raining threes on your opponents. Man those days were fun, and will be what I remember most. Rest In Peace my dude - My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

We used to hit the gym at jcc and become friends and kicked it. I will always remember your caring soul under your skin. I wasn’t able to be around when you were at your lowest while I was at my lows. As we grow up we get caught up in our own lives.. but I never forgot the old days! Will see you in the future bud!

Oh man I am torn! I remember playing basketball with you every morning 6 o'clock at Killarney before school even started. Always a fun guy to be around cracking jokes and looking out for the boy on rides home. My condolences to the Mulhern Family. Rest Easy Shamus!!

Seamus , may God bless him and may he rest in peace. Too young to leave us of course and the memories are good ones of a young boy laughing and playing, well.
