With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to our beloved matriarch. At ninety-three, Mom passed away peacefully at home. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas David Johnson (Aug 1984) and four siblings. She is lovingly survived by her three children, Cynthia, Diane and Greg, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She loved her nieces, nephews, and extended family like her own.
Shirley was born in rural Saskatchewan during the Depression Era. She lived in many small towns and cities in Alberta. Her outgoing, friendly, and cheerful nature was endearing and served her well. Lac La Biche, Alberta, was a topic of many of her stories.
After graduation, she moved to Vancouver, quickly working up the ranks in accounting. These skills laid a foundation, useful for her family throughout her life.
In Vancouver, she met Tom, and after a couple of years of courtship, Shirley married (1956)the love of her life. They moved to Coquitlam in 1964, where they laid down deep roots.
Shirley took particular pleasure in having a cat in her home. She loved to travel and was fortunate to reach all corners of the world. Rain on a roof, reading, and gardening brought her joy. Shirley rejoiced in dance, and a big part of her life involved square dancing. She delighted in many forms of needlework, leaving us with countless handmade heirlooms.
Her life was full of courage and grace.
