It is with great sadness that the family of David Sim Der announces his passing on October 1st, 2021. He is survived by his daughter’s April and Winola and grandson’s Brandon and Sean. He was predeceased by his wife, Lan Fa.
He will be greatly missed.
Sim was born in Hoy Ping, China on May 1st, 1939. He came to Canada when he was 13 years old. He was strong and humble, and very rarely complained about life’s difficulties.
As a new immigrant, he had to overcome many challenges such as the language barrier, racism, and lack of fair employment opportunities.
Sim was a hard working man and an amazing cook. He knew all his daughter’s and grandson’s favourite dishes and made them perfectly every time.
He was also a proud member of the Chau Luen Society of Vancouver, the Lower Mainland Independent Grocers Association of BC, and the Hoy Ping Benevolent Association of Canada.
He will be remembered as a kind, charismatic, loving, humourous, loyal, friendly, caring, and protective father and family man.
Thank you, dad and goong goong, our hero and greatest love, for all your sacrifices so we can have a better life here in Canada.
Rest in peace and run free in heaven without pain and sadness. Life on earth will never be the same without you. Until we meet again, you will forever be in our hearts.
