So Yuk Lan was born in Hong Kong, September 3, 1939, the youngest child to parents Mr. So Sau and Mrs. Li Shi, and little sister to Mr. So Kam Ming.
Her early years were spent in Kowloon City, with humble beginnings in a working-class neighbourhood. It is here, where she met her older brother’s best friend Mr. Ip Shiu Keung, who would later become her husband and soulmate of 58 years.
In Hong Kong, Yuk Lan and Shiu Keung graduated from the same elementary/high school and both went on to become school teachers. This career brought stability, higher quality of life and in 1963 they married and three years later welcomed their daughter See Way (Mabel) and then son See Chai (Peter).
The uncertainty of Hong Kong’s future brought their young family to start fresh in Canada in 1973. Yuk Lan (now Eliza) and Shiu Keung (now Michael) bought a modest old house in Burnaby. Years of hard work passed, and after rising achievements in the restaurant business and later with property investments, they had realized their dream of a good life for their family!
Having accomplished their economic goals, Eliza and Michael retired in 1998 and embarked on a new venture to live life to the fullest. They travelled the world by planes and cruise ships with friends and family, all the while surrounded by the love of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eliza is survived by one devoted daughter Mabel, and one adoring son Peter. She also leaves behind eight beautiful grandchildren: Krystal, Tiffany, Candice, Robert, Kaylon, Maylie and two precious great-grandchildren: Rachelle and Tux.
