Mrs. Thi Nghia Truong

Nghia was born on April 18, 1942, in central Vietnam, the eldest daughter of Ngo Thi Man and Truong Kien. She grew up during a time of profound change and hardship. Although she had little opportunity for formal education, she taught herself to read and nurtured a lifelong love of learning and curiosity.

In 1958, she married her beloved husband Bao, with whom she shared a devoted marriage until his passing in 2013. Together, they raised six children and endured the challenges of war, including the heartbreaking loss of their youngest daughter.

Nghia was a tenacious and resourceful woman. She ran her own business in Vietnam before immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in 1993. There, she worked as a newspaper carrier and became a steadfast caregiver—not only to her grandchildren, but to many children in her community.

Nghia was predeceased by her husband Bao, daughters Minh Tam (Tien) and Oanh Thu, her brother Nhan, and her parents Ngo Thi Man and Truong Kien. She is survived by her siblings Trang, Hoi, and Hiep; her children Quynh Giao (Chau), Nhu Hao (Dung), Tri Thong, and Ai Nhi (Binh); her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

She was known for her excellent cooking, love of exercise, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Even in her final years, she continued to support friends and family in her home village in Vietnam.

Nghia’s love and strength live on in the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
