Vincent was born in (formerly) Saigon, Vietnam on October 5, 1931 of Guangdong China descent. He and his young family came to Vancouver in 1979 after a harrowing journey out of his birthplace. Despite the language barrier, he was always an optimist and a visionary. He believed that through hard work, perseverance, and some luck, anything could be achieved. Hence, when opportunity struck in 1988 he started his own business with the help of his relatives and friends. His business has helped with the early introduction of exotic fruits from Thailand (such as the Durian, Mangosteen, etc.) to Vancouver. For more than 30 years, his business is a staple in the Asian community. His passions were his business and travelling together with his big group of friends.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Linda of 55 years, along with his four children: Benny and daughter-in-law Gerry, Annie and son-in-law Henry, Helen and son-in-law Tony, Joseph and daughter-in-law Cliona, and his 10 grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 15th, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Donations in Vincent Hung Kee Wong’s memory can be made to BC Children’s Hospital.
