Wai Ching is survived by her husband, Hai Ching “Allan” Tao (陶海清); and her children, Patrick, Erica and Florence.
Wai Ching was born on August 24, 1933 in Hong Kong to Ko Cheuk Hung and Ko Chan Shan Fan as their 7th child, and their 2nd daughter. She graduated from Pui Ching Middle School in 1953 and from Chiba University, Japan in 1958 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy.
Upon returning to Hong Kong, Wai Ching began an apprenticeship at the Central Medical Store Dispensary where she met her future husband in 1961. After she obtained her pharmacist’s license, she began working for her father’s World Pharmacy.
She married Tao Hai Ching, on October 23, 1962. Over the next six years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. Her children remember her as a proud mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Wai Ching was an accomplished home chef and prepared delicious dinners for her family and often for guests. She was a caring grandmother to her three grandchildren who cherished visits to her home. She enjoyed spending time with close friends and sharing laughs over dim sum, mah jong games, and Chinese dinners.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 6th at Ocean View Funeral Home, Burnaby, British Columbia. Celebrant Kevin Leung will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wai Ching's life by Livestream.
