Wayverne William Gilbert

BURNABY - Wayverne William Gilbert (Bill) passed away peacefully in Burnaby General Hospital the morning of May 9, 2023 due to complications from lung cancer. Family and friends surrounded Bill in the hospital weeks prior to his death and was popular with the nurses and doctors at the hospital.

He was born June 8, 1943 in Calcutta, India to parents Stan and Alys. The Gilberts, including his sister Waveney moved to Canada 5 years later and lived in Whitehorse and Fort William (Thunder Bay) before settling in beautiful Vancouver, BC.

Bill and his loving wife, Patricia loved to go on ocean cruises. On the cruises their endearing personality and charm attracted many people that have established long relationships with these now friends.

He loved his grandchildren and attended many of their events and sporting engagements with great pride.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Patricia and adoring children Trevor, Elizabeth (Vic), Tom (Barb) and Jim (Alison).

His grandchildren Destiny (Jeff), Jordan, Darian (Linden), Micaela, Jenna and Braydon were his greatest joy.

He is also survived by his sister, Waveney (Jim) and their children Kevin (Rachael) and Karen (Brad).

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 11am at St. Augustine’s Church at 2028 W 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC where he was a crusader and usher in his younger years.

In lieu of flowers or gifts a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in Bill’s honour would be greatly appreciated.
