Today I imagined walking down the beach at sunset, hand in hand with Bill. We stopped to watch the sun sink below the horizon. Another day is done. Today my life partner, my soul mate, my husband has left and I’m standing on the beach alone. My heart is heavy with loss. My spirit is low. I am sad.
But, Tomorrow is a new day, a new sunrise will come.
Bill has lost his battle with cancer. He fought hard but it was too much. Today we will miss his kindness, his compassion, his easy going nature. Bill was the real deal! Genuine and down to earth. And always ready for a good time and an adventure. Many years ago we committed to going to at least two new places a year, one outside of Canada, one inside. And so we have. We’ve had so many trips, experiences and adventures as we were always looking for something fun to do. Our favourite pastime was trip planning. And cooking of course. Oh and eating! Sharing food with friends is best but our epic meals at home are shared on Facebook for all to enjoy.
The other day a good friend told Bill. “you are the nicest man I have ever known.” Bill allowed everyone to be themselves, no judgement. Another very good friend said, “Your friendship has been the best kind - steadfast and unconditional!” A great friend sends texts from Mexico and said she saw a huge turtle so thought of Billy. Are you a turtle? She sent pics of the beach at sunset, Mexican music and Reggae songs for us to reminisce together. A niece said, “I’ll see Bill on the flip side” and a nephew said, “ Bill is an amazing person and always had a smile for everyone.” Our niece said, “Uncle Billy was a huge influence on my life and big part of who I am today. He encouraged me to travel which lit my fire to also become a travel bug and introduced me to the blues which I now love too.” Our nephew shared a document stating that Bill at 24 years old was “Easy going and loved to travel.” Bill is steady, no surprises; what you see is what you get!
Bill loved computer graphics and made some great collages’ for everyone. Memories made, memories shared. Our friend commented, “LIFE is short, ART is long. This piece of you Billy will live on and on and on and on….” Another friend recently shared a collage’ from many years ago reminding us of so many good times with good friends and I found the Goddess college’ as well. Yes, life well lived and loved.
There is tremendous outpouring of love for Bill, respect for the person he is, and memories of so many shared experiences. Know that Bill and I cherish our friendship and family ties. No matter where we travelled, where we have been, we always came home. And you were always there for us!
Today, I am sad, we are all sad. But, tomorrow is a new day, the new sunrise will come.
Billy would say to us,
Just close your eyes and you will see
All the memories you have of me
Sit back to relax and you will find,
I’m still here inside your mind.
No actually Bill would say, “Happy trails, may all your spaces take you to happy places!”
I love you Bill, we have had a great life together, we did what we wanted to do.
Until we meet again…Denise
