It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Wing Him Wong, at the age of 98.
Predeceased by his wife, Pui Kuen, he will be lovingly remembered by his children Peter, Conan (Anne), Doris (Peter), Eddie (Joyce), and his grandchildren Aaron, Kelsey, Ryan, Tasia, Kirsten, Evan.
Wing Him was born in Toisan, China and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He worked as a cook in various restaurants, including in Oxbow, Saskatchewan. After moving to Vancouver, he worked as a cook in restaurants, and as a shopkeeper in a traditional Chinese wares/herbal store in Chinatown. Later, he was fortunate enough to be hired as a cook for the B.C. Ferries, where he worked on the Queen of Prince Rupert for over 25 years. During that time, he made many lifelong friends.
Dad enjoyed reading newspapers in both Chinese and English, going for coffee and dim sum with friends, going for daily walks and often picking up snacks and goodies for the grandchildren. He was a wonderful cook and baker. Everyone remembers his delicious apple tarts and fluffy scones. He whipped up some great weekly family meals and ensured that everyone had a supply of baked goods to take home with them.
Dad loved his family and doted on all his grandkids. Like a traditional father, he never expressed his love in words, but his actions spoke so much more. He provided wonderful warm memories for family and helped to take care of the grandkids when they were young. He even wanted to walk them to and from high school!
He will be remembered as a happy man, who always had a smile on his face, and was generous and kind to everyone around him.
Everybody loved Dad. His goodness and memory will live on.
