Dearest Grandpa,

We are deeply saddened on the day you left us and we will forever miss you, grandpa.  

Grandpa, you will always be remembered in the way you lived your wonderful life and what a special person you have been. 

Grandpa, you gave each of us the best things in life. And, the best things you left us with are the things you taught us. You taught as you lived your life that was sincere, honest and humble. And, a life that is filled with love and compassion for family and the people you meet in life. 
 
Our sadness will only heal over time and the void in our lives will be filled with the lovely memories we have of you.

Dearest Gung Gung,

Thank you for giving us so much. You are a person we aspire to be like. You showed us the true definition of love through your constant will to put others before yourself. We remember the moments when you brought us happiness through your infectious smile, when you would patiently spend time with us, and when you generously offered your stash of lollies to us.  All these blessed memories that we have of you, and more, makes us proud to be a Joe and will always be treasured in our hearts. May we all have the fighting spirit that you have until the day we see you in paradise.

I will always treasure the wonderful memories of my father-in-law. He had welcomed me into the family like his own daughter and we formed a strong bond over the many years – from the time I first met him at William's graduation to my first trip to Fiji and Canada as well as the many family gatherings over the years. Though a man of few words, he was a pillar of strength to his family, extended family, grandchildren and friends. An avid gardener with a green thumb, I will fondly remember how he tirelessly pulled out the weeds in my garden and planted the taro leaf plants for us to enjoy. We will miss him greatly but take comfort knowing he is now resting in God's eternal dwelling place.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4 (NIV Bible)

Thank you for all the wonderful memories we have of you - a celebrated life that was well and truly lived! You have done so much for us and our lives have forever changed because of you. From leaving China to making a life in Fiji to being surrounded by all of your loved ones in Canada – your life is a marvel and I am proud to be called your grandson. I will never forget your tireless dedication to waking up at 4.30 am to farm, your smile with that twinkle in your eye, and most importantly, your commitment to family. We will miss you but we know that God is taking great care of you.

Dear Por Por and Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.  I have vivid recollections of time spent with Gung Gung that I will cherish forever - a broad smile on his face as we spent the afternoon pruning the garden in Auckland; his cast-iron hands dexterously peeling lychees in Delta; and a deep, resonating voice urging me to 'sic fahn' at the dinner table in Sydney.  Gung Gung was a man of immense strength and fortitude whom I will miss deeply.  May he rest in eternal peace.

I am very saddened by the passing of my very dear father in law. In all the years I have had the privilege of knowing him, he has always impressed me with his integrity and positive approach.
