Yee Kum Irene Leung

December 27, 1935February 12, 2021

Our dearest mother, Irene Yee Kum Leung, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12th, 2021 at the age of 85. She was a loving wife for 40 years, a caring mom to her three children, and a doting PoPo to her grandchild.

Irene had a passion for food, and enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends. A generous soul, she never forgot a birthday or a special event. She was also a master knitter and created many beautiful gifts.

Born in Kwantung, China, Irene immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1974. Arriving in Vancouver, British Columbia with her husband, Martin Po Kee, and her three young children, she established her family home in Burnaby. During those early years, she and her husband, along with their extended family, ran various shops in the bustling community of Chinatown.

Predeceased by her husband Martin Po Kee and her daughter Wendy, Irene leaves behind her son Nicholas, her daughter Ada, and her grandson Rafe. Family and friends wishing to honour Irene are invited to make a donation in her memory to St. John Hospice at UBC.

When my family immigrated to Canada over 30 years ago, Yee Ma opened up to her home to my family and I. We stayed with the Leung family all summer. I am forever greatful to her for making my family transition to Canada very easy and pleasant. I will always remeber Yee Ma as a kind and gentle soul. I am greatful I got to have dinner with you one last time in 2019. RIP Yee Ma.
