Yee Tak was born on September 22nd, 1934 in Macau. She was the middle child of three with two brothers. When the Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1937, she moved with her father to Guangxi. After the war, her father passed away and she along with the rest of her remaining family moved back to Macau where she graduated from high school and finished training as a kindergarten teacher in 1952. She then worked for several years as a teacher in various Christian kindergartens in Hong Kong.
She and Fai Lam were married in 1955 and together they enjoyed 59 years of marriage with their three children: Alfred, Maria and Rita. After Rita was born, she became a full-time house wife and dedicated herself to the care and needs of her family.
Yee Tak and Fai immigrated to Canada in 1990 in order to be with their children and settled in Coquitlam. She helped raise their granddaughter, Kendi, and was an avid gardener and an amazing cook. Every Sunday she would meticulously prepare delicious gourmet dinners for her children and their families and friends; this tradition continued right up until the day she fell sick about a year ago.
She was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in February 2013. She fought it courageously and made history by being one of the very few patients to be able to walk out of McKenney Creek Hospice in November after being there for four months. Yet ultimately, due to infection and complications after her second round of radiation treatment in January 2014, she was re-admitted to the hospice where as her first stay, she received excellent care, love and support from the nurses, staffs, volunteers and friends there.
On February 12, 2014, with daughter Rita by her side, our beloved Yee Tak passed away peacefully into God’s care.
