He was born November 20, 1930, in Shatian Village, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, China.
Yet Man was a devoted spouse, caring father, brother and uncle, proud grandfather and loving great grandfather. He was cherished for his dedication to family, friends and to the Lim Sai Hor Kow Mock Benevolent Association.
His parents were Shee Chong Lum and Kam Tai Low.
Yet Man’s spouses were the late Yick Kwan Lau (Rita) (married 20 years) and the late Cheuk Chun Lau (Bess) (married 40 years). His older brother was the late Yet Sing Lum (Zhao Qun). He is survived by younger sister, Sin Kau (Carol) (James), 4 daughters, Anita (Dick), Anna (Dave), Alda (John) and Sandy (Ken); 2 sons, Albert (Eliza) and Andrew (Liana); 10 grandchildren: Natasha (Marcus), Jeffery (Van), Chris (Natalie), Alex, (Sharon), Shannon, Kristin, Erin, Emerald, Kyle and Triton; and great grandson, Emerson.
From a very young age in China, Yet Man worked hard to provide for his family. When he was about 13 years old, he would dig for taro roots and sweet potatoes, catch fish, plant vegetables and manage the rice fields. He would also go up to the mountains to cut wood for the family to use as fuel.
In 1952, Yet Man reunited with his father in Canada. Yet Man was hardworking and determined to do what he could to make a better life for his extended family (who at the time were still in China). With his help, many of his extended family were able to immigrate to Canada.
He learned to cook and subsequently opened the popular Renfrew Drive-Inn, one of the first Chinese Canadian smorgasbord restaurants in Vancouver, located at 12th Avenue and Commercial Drive. (1960 to 1992)
Yet Man loved to fish, golf, play mahjong, frequent casinos and travel. He supported many programs and celebrations at the Vancouver Lim Sai Hor Kow Mock Benevolent Association where he served 2 terms as President.
He enjoyed a very full life and was well loved and respected. Although he will be dearly missed, his vibrant, caring and generous spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
