February 22, 1924 - October 15, 2012
Yeung Chai Lam Chan passed away on Monday October 15, 2012. She was 88 years old. She had been a faithful wife, caring mother and loving grandmother. Recently she also became a great grandmother. Her dream of becoming an accountant never realized, but her tenacity to adapt, survive and engage in learning never seems to stop. She had many skills, and all of them came to her as an interest first and then she sought guidance and good teacher to make her excel in that area. Besides being a seamstress, she learnt clothing design, cooking, painting, handcrafts and calligraphy. She loved to be around her children and grandchildren. It was her happiest time to have them around. But she missed most was her husband, Mr. Shou Man Chan (陳守文), who passed away this January. Her whole life was to support the family and care for her husband and children. Her philosophy of life is to survive like a weed, which grows in the crack or smallest amount of soil with just a little water in it. It will turn into a flower. She had suffered Parkinson disease, and Dementia in her last years. Her heart was weak. The cause of death was cardio-respiratory failure. We will all miss her and know that she is with her husband in heaven. She is survived by her son Wai-Pan Chan and her daughter Rebecca Cheng, also her daughter-in-law Ruth Chan and her son-in-law Nick Cheng, and her grandsons: Avery Chan, Benjamin Chan, Aaron Cheng, Brandon Cheng, Clayton Chan and her grand-daughter-in-law, Felicity Chan and her only granddaughter, Charis Chan and her only great granddaughter, Serenity Chan.
