Ms. Yu Ying Yu

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Yu Ying Yu on October 25, 2025. She left us peacefully, surrounded with love from her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Yu Ying was born in Shanghai, China, where she received her education and started a family. She was a very proud lady, who loved her hometown in which she had decades-long friendships and memories. It is with gratitude to say that Yu Ying shared this love with many generations including her two grandchildren.

In 2012, Yu Ying Yu immigrated to Canada to support her daughter and the new life she was starting. Her true character of selflessness, generosity and humour truly shone brightly in the young family that began in Burnaby. Yu Ying devoted herself to the upbringing of her grandchildren. She will always have a profound impact on them as she taught them everything from speaking her hometown dialect, Shanghainese, to instilling honourable values within them.

She will always be remembered for her gracious storytelling, her witty humour and her ability to make light of a dark situation. Her daily play on words that were sure to make us all laugh and her commentary on current events will certainly be missed. Though she is not with us anymore, we will never forget the fond memories she created and Yu Ying will always be in their hearts.
