Yuen Ching Hung was born on September 21, 1940 to the loving parents of Yuen Hin Chiu and Shu Lim in Zhonsan and has 1 sister and 5 brothers.
When she was 17 years old, she graduated from high school. She enjoyed swimming competitively on the school team. Yuen Ching worked in administration at a clothing company in Hong Kong.
Yuen Ching met her husband, Stephen through mutual friends in 1963. Although they came from different backgrounds, they loved each other and were committed to starting a new family. They were married in 1965 in Hong Kong and were soon blessed with three sons, Laurence, Edward and William.
In February 1975 for the sake of the family and their sons’ future, Yuen Ching and Stephen sacrificed all they had achieved in Hong Kong to immigrate to Canada. As a stay at-home mother, Yuen Ching enjoyed caring for her family and volunteering at the church with seniors’ programs. When her children were older, Yuen worked in food services at Eaton’s Department Store and BCTel.
Yuen Ching and Stephen accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and were baptized at Richmond Chinese Alliance Church on September 9, 1979. Her three sons were also baptized at a later date.
Yuen Ching loves Frances, Julia and Patty as her daughters and her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ethan, Joshua, and Emma. She was so grateful seeing them grow up. Her only wish was Stephen could have lived longer to experience the same joy and pride she had in them.
In 2017, Yuen Ching moved into Rosewood Manor because of health complications with Parkinson’s and back pain. Her overall health was good, and she thrived in her community with residents and nursing staff. She was famous for being the BINGO champion and late-night snacks.
In early October 2021, Yuen Ching was diagnosed with lung cancer. She did not experience any discomfort or pain even though her health slowly declined. She continued to talk, laugh, and reminisce about the old days.
On the evening, April 15, 2022, she took her last breath without any complications. Her wish to not receive resuscitation allowed her to go on her own terms. Peacefully and calmly.
Yuen Ching will be deeply missed by all her family and friends, but we are comforted knowing she had found rest and is reunited with her husband and Heavenly Father.
