We are gathered here today to grieve the loss of, Anna Fung. Anna was my 七姑姐. To all of us here, she was also an Aunty, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, friend, colleague, dance partner, mah-jong “leg”, volunteer and to simply put it, an all around great person.
I am sure that each of you here had her touch your life and would have shared a lot of good memories. I remember the times she skipped rope with us – my nieces remember her as the only elder in the household that we knew who could actually do the criss-cross of the skipping rope and jump at the same time. She also loved to travel. Our family will forever have the fondest memories of the places we visited with her over the years. Even at 80 years old, she would never consider herself old. I remember when we were in Las Vegas and the waiter referred to her as “poh-poh”. Well, she gave him the “look” and told us jokingly, “Less tips for him for calling me poh-poh!!” I’m sure us ladies can relate!! She also enjoyed the extra-curricular activities with the Seniors Group including dancing, performances and volunteering. She was the kind of person that would think about everyone else’s needs before her own.
七姑姐 was a very strong woman. Even during her hospital stay, not once did she have any qualms or complaints about any medical procedure that was put in front of her. She knew that she wanted to get well. I remember when BGH started her on physio again, her first question to me that afternoon was “Do you want to go to Toronto with me in May and are there any cruise specials in the summer?” This just shows how much she enjoyed life and was looking forward to going home.
七姑姐, you are home now. You are at peace and safe in His Home. You no longer have to worry if there’s milk in the fridge, if there’s dog food for Bica, if Marvin has food for dinner and even telling us not to visit the hospital because it’s late and we have to work. In your own way, to each of us, you have let us know how special we were to you. You are also special to us. We will always miss you and the life lesson stories that you told. We came here today with tears of sadness that you are gone but now we will just shed tears of joy because we know you are with Our Heavenly Father and we will meet again.
Arrangements under the direction of Ocean View Funeral Home, Burnaby, BC.
