It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zalil Jaleel Mohammed, on April 18, 2026, at the age of 88. Known to many as John, he was born on Sept. 13, 1937 in Princes Town, Trinidad & Tobago to Yassin and Kazim Mohammed (nee Gopaul). John met the love of his life and beloved wife, Elisa Mohammed (nee Olaybal) of 54 years in Vancouver, BC. Soon after, they welcomed and raised two daughters, Jenny-Lee Boivin (nee Mohammed) and Maria Handley (nee Mohammed).
John was known for his strong will and unique sense of humour. His love for his family was whole-hearted and true. After a career as a heavy-duty mechanic, John retired early and fulfilled a role that was truly meant for him, a devoted grandfather. He loved and cared for each of his six grandchildren: Jack, Simon, Max, Aiesha, Francisca, and Harland.
In 2012, John received a second chance at life. Before undergoing a 6 bypass surgery, John had a spiritual desire to spend the rest of his earthly and heavenly life, sharing in the love and deep rooted faith of Elisa. He converted to Catholicism with a renewed belief in God. Along with his wife, John became a member of St. Andrew’s Parish and supported his community with service and respect.
