At the tender age of six months, Zivko's father bid him farewell as he ventured to fight for an independent Croatia, tragically losing his life in the pursuit. Zivko, the last surviving member of his original family – Ruza (mom), Nikola (dad), Nikola and Ivica (brothers), is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Zora, and their loving children: George (Marina), Gregory (Cari), and Catherine. His memory will forever be cherished by his grandchildren Nikolas, Ella, Maria, Daniel, Violet, and Victoria.
Embarking on a new chapter in his twenties, Zivko immigrated to Canada, where he established himself as a skilled carpenter. It was in Canada that he serendipitously met Zora, his soulmate from the same Croatian village. Zivko, a man of simple joys, found immense pleasure in soccer, a deep connection with animals, the accordion, and the melody of his whistling echoing through his work.
A Catholic mass in his honor will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, located at 3105 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver, BC. Following the service, a burial will be held at Oceanview Burial Park, Garden of Peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the Croatian church or the Alzheimer’s Society.
Zivko, you are loved immeasurably, and your absence leaves an irreplaceable void. We will miss you deeply, but the memories shared and your spirit will forever reside in our hearts.
