Marjorie Lorraine Nugent Johnson, age 83, passed away with family at her side in her longtime community of Burnet, Texas on December 5th. She was born November 19, 1936 in Pineville, Louisiana. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden Robert Johnson, parents Thea Nugent and Georgie Nugent, her dearly beloved grandchildren Madeline Gambrell and Thomas Job, and siblings Edward Nugent, Jimmy Nugent, Ollie McClure and Mary Bryan.
Marjorie was a graduate of Bolton High School and welcomed thousands of clients for years as a teller at First State Bank of Burnet. Marjorie was deeply invested and loved at First Baptist Church of Burnet for 50 years.
Marjorie presided as the family matriarch for generations all over the state of Texas, setting the expectation for love, service, and selfless generosity. She was “Momo” for a generation of grandchildren, until her beloved Madeline began Marjorie’s new era as a great-grandmother by titling her “Old Momo.” Marjorie was deeply involved in fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, crowned as the Chief Hugger of the Burnet Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis. She was head over heels in love with her husband Bob to the end. Marjorie loved LSU football, figs, and above all, Jesus.
But Marjorie’s sugar also came with spice. You could rise her ire by calling her “Maggie,” by rooting for the Texas Longhorns, or by criticizing her pastor or family. She could not be forced to do anything, especially swim. She fiercely battled and defeated cancer three times.
Marjorie is survived by daughters Barbara Shipp, and husband Lyndel, grandsons, Brandon, Kyle and Joseph of Friendswood; Brenda Job, and husband Sam, granddaughter, Jennifer Job & husband Daniel Doyle; great grandchildren, Magnolia Seale, Helen and Henry Doyle of Beaumont; daughter, Tina Abeita, and husband Greg, granddaughter Erica Gambrell, and husband George, great granddaughter, Savannah Gambrell, grandson Billy King and wife Emily, great grandsons Cal, Cooper, and Hayes of Burnet; Mike Johnson, and wife, Kathy and grandson, Hunter of Mansfield; Sisters, Judy Satcher and Margaret Funderburk, her dear friend Debbie Northcutt, as well as a multitude of family and friends left with Marjorie’s legacy for love.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 -7 PM at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet on Saturday, December 7th. Donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation are welcome in lieu of flowers. Funeral service will be held Sunday December 8th at 2:00 pm at 1st Baptist Church in Burnet.
