It is with great sadness that the family of Marshall P. Reed, announce his passing on February 14, 2020, after losing his battle with cancer. Marshall was surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his beloved home.
Born in Oatmeal, Texas, on December 24, 1934, the son of Hudson Reed and Ethel Hill Reed Anderson. He was a long time resident of Austin, before retiring to Burnet, Texas in 1991.
In his early years, Marshall moved from the Oatmeal area to Austin, where he attended Austin High School. After high school, he started a career with the City of Austin Electric Department as a lineman, working his way up to top management of the street lighting division. He retired from the City of Austin in 1988. It is here where he made many lifelong friendships.
Marshall loved the outdoors, so any activity outdoors he was there. As a young adult, Marshall played softball and basketball on many city leagues, as well as, church leagues. As he got older, he was an avid golfer, still snow skiing at 72 years old, water skier, jet skier, you get the point. At every opportunity, the family was on the lake with friends, eating his famous barbecued brisket and Elgin sausage. He also loved to travel with friends all over the United States, enjoying bluegrass music and seeing the beautiful country.
His deep love for animals was present until the end. Peanut, his Yorkie, was a constant companion, by his side during his illness.
Marshall is survived by his wife, best friend and lifelong sweetheart, Margaret A. “Butch” Reed, of 67 years, his daughter, Denise Braun and her husband, John, his granddaughter, Staci Dosch and her husband, Nathan, two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Toryn and many close family and friends. Marshall was a loving husband, a daughter’s larger than life hero, as well as, a grandfather and great-grandfather that hung the moon. Marshall never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
The family wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to the care givers of Ascension-Seton Hospice, for their unparalleled care, compassion and dignity shown to our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
