Services honoring Billie’s life will be held at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, Texas on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The family will begin receiving visitors at noon and the service will begin in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. The interment will immediately follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in Bertram.
Billie was born in the community of Shady Grove, north of Bertram, in Burnet County, Texas on November 18, 1938 to Harvie Bird and Froney Ann Huggins Bird.
Billie raised her children in the Austin, Lampasas and Bertram areas over the years, navigating as a single mom for many of those years but managing to put herself first through the LVN nursing program and later the RN nursing program, all while maintaining full time employment and raising her last child at home.
Once she became an empty nester, Billie did traveling nursing for a couple of years and enjoyed some different scenery. In later years she found home health and hospice to be her calling.
In 2000, Billie married the love of her life, Carl “Bud” Amidon and finally retired from nursing so they could enjoy each other’s’ company traveling in their motor home, camping and fishing.
Although she was officially retired, caretaking came naturally and Billie selflessly and lovingly took care of numerous loved ones in her home during their final days on earth. Billie was fondly known for her Christmas candy, homemade jelly, pumpkin bread and banana bread treats that she proudly baked up each year for holidays.
Billie was a wonderful seamstress and cake baker, having sewn numerous outfits and baked many wedding and birthday cakes for family and church friends over the years. In her later years she took up quilting and could be found running around to quilt and shop hops with her cousin, friend and running buddy, Elaine Holbrook.
Billie is survived by her sons Kenneth Tucker (wife Martha), Ronald Tucker, Joel Tucker (wife Denise); daughters Debra Tucker Smith and Elizabeth Webb (husband Russell); step-children Les Amidon (wife Sandra), Linda Pogue and Peggy Carter (husband Stephen); grandchildren, T.J. Tucker, Tracy Itz, Christy Wheeler, Michael Wheeler, Cassandra Stacia Krupp, Camron Smith, Matthew Jones, Justin Tucker, Kaylinn Shae Tucker, Derek Spencer, Aaron Barber, Devin Box, Cheyanne Box, Skyler Denson and Bryson Denson; great-grandchildren, Michael Tucker, Ashleigh Tucker, Levi Tucker, Annabella Lewis, Reese Wheeler, Milee Wheeler, Aria Krupp, Lucas Krupp, Clayton Conkle, Mikkayla, Madilyn and Brayden Barber, Dakota, Korbin, Easton and Brooklyn Tucker, Anabeth, Brynlee, Gunner and Hadlee Box; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents Harvie Bird and Froney Ann Huggins Bird; brothers Blackson Bird and Granville Bird; sisters Shirley Maude Bird, Betty Jane Hill, Annie Mae McCloskey, and Winnie Adarene Wilson; her son James Tucker and grandson Kevin Tucker.
Those named as pallbearers were Ron Tucker, Joel Tucker, T.J. Tucker, Camron Smith, Devin Box, Levi Tucker, and Michael Wheeler.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of New Century Hospice and Bertram Nursing Home for the love and care shown to their mother during her final months.
