Cricket was born to Walter E. Baker and Ora Clyde Williams Baker on July 23, 1929, in the Mahomet Community of Burnet County. Movelda got her nickname “Cricket” from her grandfather who, when she was born, called her “his little cricket”. She graduated from Burnet High School in 1947 and soon met and married the love of her life, Vonda Joe Branon on May 15, 1948.
In her adult years, she served as secretary for many businesses in Burnet including Love Cleaners, Burnet Chamber of Commerce, Allen Clinic and Hospital, and Clements -Wilcox Funeral Home. However, her greatest accomplishment and lifelong love was raising and impacting the lives of numerous children while caring for them at TLC and All Nanu’s Children Learning Center. During her lifetime, she was known as wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, but her most cherished name was Nanu. She was an active member of First Christian Church until her health declined. She was an amazing cook, an avid reader and loved spending time with her family, playing cards and doing puzzles. You could always find Nanu on Tuesday nights playing poker with her cousins.
Cricket was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Ora, husband, Joe, a brother, Walter E Baker Jr, killed in action WWII, sisters Maxine Everett and Janell Branon.
She is survived by son James Lee (Bubba) Branon and wife, Becky of Marble Falls, daughter, Janita (Biddie) Metzler and husband David of Burnet, grandchildren, Olivia Gowin and husband Zeke of Burnet, Jennifer Lagrone and husband Jeff of Temple, Jameson (Barrett) Branon and wife Leslie of Georgetown, April Castenada and Roger of Austin, Jennifer Mead and husband Rob of Marble Falls, great grandchildren Avery, Addyson, Griffin, Matthew, Kase, Keller, Elena, Isabell, Cory, Becca and Lucas along with many nieces and nephews.
