David J Mitchell

David, a twin, was one of five children born to W.V. “Buster” Mitchell and wife Mary L, ‘Taylor” Mitchell in 1937 in Gladewater, Texas. His mother Mary L. soon died after in 1939. His dad remarried and the family moved to Albany, Texas. Soon there would be a brother and two sisters added to the family. Now there were four boys and four girls attending the Albany Public Schools in Albany, Texas.

David was preceded in death by his first wife, Raynelle “Tate” Mitchell on August 15, 2001, by a car accident, his father W.V., mother Mary L., stepmother Louise Goins, sister Eloise Wilkins, sister Pat Harrington, brother Richmond “Bud” Mitchell, sister Anna Hogan, twin brother Daniel Mitchell, sister Linda Herron, and brother James Mitchell. David outlived all his siblings.

Survivors include his wife Ruby, son Chuck and his wife Tracy, son Jeff, stepson Paul and stepdaughter Julie, grandchildren, Reagan Castillo and her husband Reuben, Madison Thrower and her husband Kevin, Logan Mitchell, Max Mitchell, and Seth Mitchell, great-grandchildren Alora and Kline Thrower.

David was a Public-School Educator for 30 years with a Masters degree in supervision and administration from North Texas State University, Denton Texas.

He loved his grandkids and was with them when possible. He liked antique cars and a few old VWs or two.

He met and married Ruby Andres in 2008 in Lubbock, Texas where they lived until 2015. They moved to Burnet, Texas where they built a lovely new home and moved in Dec. 1, 2015. They enjoyed meeting new friends and going dancing every chance they got. Not many places in the Burnet area were nonsmoking. David took to easy living with few activities like old cars and VW swap meets. He missed having a shop and all sorts of shop equipment, usually with one or two old VWs in all sorts of needing repairs. He liked driving an old VW for some odd sort of way.

He liked antique cars and owned several, one of which was a 1917 Mitchell touring car, which was burned to the ground by an idiot fueling up a car that was stored inside the same building as his Mitchell car. He was never able to find and/or afford another Mitchell car since they are rare automobiles.

He liked hanging out with two of his brothers, Daniel, his twin and James. Naturally they both like old cars. He wasn’t fond of traveling down the highways, so missed visiting with his two sons and brother who all lived some distance from the Hill country near Austin.

He did not play golf, fish, hunt, drink or smoke. He liked being in a shop working with his hands and repairing something. After his first wife, Raynelle, was killed in a car accident, David sold or gave away most of his cars, shop equipment and stuff. He moved to Lubbock and married Ruby Andres then they moved to Burnet where he did a lot of nothing, just couldn’t seem to find his niche anymore.

David loved Classic Country music and he loved to dance. He and Ruby participated in the Senior Dances both in Lubbock and Marble Falls. His favorite dance was the waltz.

I guess one can get used to anything. Some live in the Arctic, others the South Pole, and a few even live in Burnet, Texas.
