

Butch is predeceased by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Rowena “Pat” Reed, his grandson Alex Reed, and a brother, Linden Reed.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Teresa Shands and her husband Ricky of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sons Michael Reed and wife Narda of Belton, Texas, and Damon Reed and his wife Rachel of China Spring, Texas. He is also survived by sister, Retha Tubbs and husband Robert “Rusty” Tubbs of Elgin, Texas, and brother Doug Reed and his wife Beth of Lolita, Texas; Grandchildren Stephanie Davis, Jennifer Layne, Nicholas Reed, Andrea Reed, Joshua Molina, and Jordan Adair. Also surviving to honor and remember Butch are great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins and acquaintances.
Known as Durwood to his schoolmates and extended family, Butch attended schools in Liberty Hill, Bertram, Burnet and Pasadena, Texas. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1953 and began working for Brown & Root Construction Company soon thereafter. He went on to work for many years in the construction industry as an ironworker/rigger foreman and superintendent, a crane operator and as a labor union officer. He served as the Business Agent for the Local #450 of the International Union of Operating Engineers from mid-1970s to mid-1980s. Butch served as a safety consultant and an expert witness on safety and crane operation in his later years.
Butch enjoyed politics and frequently worked on local campaigns of city councilmen, county commissioners, and Austin mayors. In memory of his brother Linden, Butch was instrumental in involving the Austin labor Union community in the annual Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. He took great pleasure in delivering the large check to that charitable institution.
Butch was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a firearm enthusiast and a truly outstanding marksman. He enjoyed the competition and camaraderie of league bowling and continued to bowl in Georgetown until recent years. Telling and swapping stories while barbecuing for family and friends was one of his most enjoyable pastimes.
The funeral service will be held Monday, September 22, 2014 10:00 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, TX.
