E. Craig Laub, Burnet, died September 21, 2021 at his daughter’s home after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Arrangements for a fall service in Bismarck, ND are pending.

Craig was born November 29, 1951 in Elgin, North Dakota to Elmer and Dorathy (Buchanan) Laub. He graduated from Elgin Public School in 1969 and attended the University of North Dakota for two years before volunteering to serve in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1974. He completed his B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota and later earned an MBA degree from the University of Mary. Craig began work for Basin Electric Power Cooperative, headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, in 1974 where he continued to work until his retirement in 2008. Craig was a devoted father and grandfather, moving to Texas shortly after he retired to be close to his daughter, Megan and her family. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Ian and Alex compete in basketball, football and baseball over the years.

He was a kind and gentle man who gladly volunteered at Hill Country Fellowship Church where he was greeted enthusiastically by children arriving at the pre-school there. Craig loved to golf and he will be remembered far and wide as an exceptional baker and maker of sweets, especially for his peanut butter & chocolate cake, his chocolate chip cookies and his coveted peanut brittle. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Megan and Eric Cantrill and grandsons Ian and Alex all of Burnet, sister and brother-in-law Mikiel and Odell Ottmar Bismarck, ND; brother and sister-in-law Elmer Bryan and Cecilia Kay Laub, Las Vegas, NV; and sister E. Diane Laub, Bismarck, ND.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Basin Electric Scholarship fund in the form of a check written to Basin Electric Power Cooperative with “scholarship donation in memory of Craig Laub” in the memo line and sent to Basin Electric, Attn: Paige Fleck, 1717 E Interstate Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58503.

My condolences to the family. I meet Craig at Basin Electric and we played in a golf league in Mandan for a number of years. He had a very level headed calmness about him and great personality. More importantly, he was a very good human being.

When I would go in to talk with Craig, he would tell me about what he heard on Rush Limbaugh. He knew that I dislike Limbaugh a lot so he would tease me about being a Femma Nazi, just to get a rise out of me.
In November Craig would make peanut brittle, and give it away to a lot of people. It was so good!
Craig was a kind man and loved his family very much. His bright light will be missed in this world.

To all the Laub family. Craig was a fine and generous man to all of us work who had the privilege to have worked with him at Basin Electric. He was generous with his time and knowledge with other co-workers and more importantly to myself and other departments.

I know how much it meant to him to join Megan and family down in Texas and how much he loved the hill country.

My condolences for your loss.

I was privileged to know Craig at UND, and later, work together at Basin Electric.

He was always pleasant and fun to be around.

When I had any accounting questions, Craig was the person with the answers.

Rest In Peace, my friend.

Our memories of Craig are the fact that he was always so friendly and had a great smile. He also made a great "dirt cake" in a children's play sand pail with shovel included. He so loved Megan and her family. He always talked about them with great pride. May our good Lord bless his memory. We are sad for your loss, but know he is now pain free and walking in the streets of gold. God bless all of you.

Megan, Eric, Ian and Alec, we are so sorry for your loss. Love and prayers to you all. Patti provided daycare for Megan and the Laub’s truly became great friends. Every time Craig or Megan got back to Bismarck after moving to Texas they would call and we would get together for pizza and Craig made it a point to make a trip back to Bismarck for each of our kids wedding. He was truly a great father to Megan and a great friend to us. He will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I love these pictures that you are sharing. Craig loved his family so much. He was always willing to share a story or photo of his grandsons. He was so proud of them.

Working with Craig was fun. Although he was our supervisor he would always tell everyone that he just did what we told him to do. He had a way of managing while making us all think we were in control. Haha

A good man and great friend to many. He will be missed but fondly remembered.
