Edna Ruth was born in Kingsland on January 8, 1934, the oldest of five children of James Stanley Wyatt and Johnnie Lorena (Harwell) Wyatt. Raised in the Pentecostal faith, she received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at age 12. She graduated from Marble Falls High School and shortly thereafter met a young man, Kenneth Rickaby, an aspiring Pentecostal minister whose service in the Air Force had brought him from Wisconsin to Texas. They were married in Marble Falls on December 28th, 1953, and began a journey together that was to last for over 53 years. After marrying, they settled in Austin, but the call of God to the ministry eventually led the young couple to places as diverse as Round Rock, Lampasas, Burnet, and to Kenneth’s home state of Wisconsin. Kenneth, with Edna’s faithful support, served as pastor of the United Pentecostal Church in Lampasas for many years and later as pastor of the United Pentecostal Church in Burnet (two tenures). As a pastor’s wife, Edna was busy and supportive in church leadership and activities, serving in the Ladies’ Auxiliary and leading the congregation in singing her and their favorite hymns. At the time of her passing, she was a member of New Life Church in Burnet. Outside of church activities, her passions included seeking hidden treasures at antique stores and garage and estate sales and enjoying the company of family, particularly her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Edna Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Rickaby, her daughter Donna Gail Rickaby, her son Kenneth Wayne Rickaby, her granddaughter Jessica Lee Rickaby, and her brother Stanley Raiford Wyatt. She is survived by her son Keith Rickaby, wife Brenda, daughter Diane, husband Jim Blair, her brother Johnny Wyatt, her sisters Corrine Kirchner and Dorothy Casey, ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many, many friends.
Mom, Grandma, Granny, Nana. Until that day we see you again in Heaven’s glory, we remember the words of “Precious Memories”, your favorite hymn:
“Precious father, loving mother
Fly across the lonely years.
And old home scenes of my childhood
In fond memory appear!
Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul!
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious sacred scenes unfold . . .”
