Born February 18, 1936 in Austin, Texas to Johannes and Exelle Bohn, she graduated from Austin High before continuing on to the University of Texas where she met the love of her life, Ray. Their marriage in 1956 began an unbelievable partnership, rooted in their unwavering love and support for each other and the deep connections they formed with so many others along their way.
Helen’s journey began and ended in Texas’s capital city, but she was a small town girl at heart and Burnet, TX was ultimately the place she called home. She was a longstanding member of the United Methodist Church and an engaged member of the Burnet community, with an incredible network of close neighbors and friendly faces that she cherished.
Helen never met a stranger and did so much for so many. As mother to Pam and Gram to J, Nick, and Lindz, she never missed a birthday or holiday and loved taking an entire afternoon to go shopping for thoughtful gifts paid for, always, in cash. Her outgoing personality allowed her to thrive in her roles as counselor, Girls Camp Director and eventually Alumni Director at Camp Longhorn, where she wore out her typewriter and finally learned to Facetime to stay in touch with friends far and wide across generations.
She was old school but in the best possible way. Early was on time and she was never late for her Friday morning hair appointments or a UT Football game at DKR. She hated flying but loved to travel, especially to the beach with fried shrimp and oysters nearby. She was detailed and disciplined, never with a hair out of place, never one to let a stain on Ray’s shirt linger for long, and definitely never caught in a bid with the five-off!
She lived a life full of energy with no regrets. It was truly one to be celebrated.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, and her “Sister” Barbara Wheeler. She is survived by daughter Pam Alden, grandson Jonathan Alden with wife Lisa, grandson Nick Alden, granddaughter Lindsay Alden with husband Stefan, three great grandchildren Benji, Emma and Noah, and “Brother” John Bohn.
According to her wishes, a private burial service will be held at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life is Scheduled for August 13th at Camp Longhorn Inks Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Austin Humane Society, of which Helen was a passionate supporter.
