Janice Louise Elkins

Jan was born on August 22, 1942, at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas to Theadore and Sybil Raven. Jan grew up in East Austin along with her brother Theadore and sister Beverly.

Jan married John Wayne Bird in 1959 and together they had 7 children, 4 of which passed away at birth. John Wayne passed away in 1969. In 1981, Jan met Roger “Cowboy” Elkins and married on August 23, 1981. Together they shared 44 years with each other.

Jan was a beautician for 18 years. For 18 years, Jan dedicated those years working for a nursing home in Austin. For 18 years, Jan made each resident feel beautiful.

Jan enjoyed fishing, camping and sewing, crocheting and knitting. Jan helped with the summer camps for many years at Hill Country Fellowship. Jan was also very supportive of Cowboy’s career as a Fire Fighter and EMT-I for the City of Burnet and East Lake Buchanan VFD.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her first husband John Wayne Bird, 4 children at birth and her youngest son, Christopher Bird.

She is survived by her husband, Roger “Cowboy” Elkins, daughter Carylon, her son Bobby. Jan is also survived by her stepchildren Shannon, Roger, Michelle, and Christopher. Jan is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Beverly along with her nieces, Brandy and Autumn.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2026, from 5-7pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Funeral Service will be on Thursday August 13, 2026, at 10:00am at Hill Country Fellowship in Burnet with the burial at Bear Creek Cemetery in Betram, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hill Country Fellowship Church or your favorite charity.
