Janis Lynn (Kenney) Hakker, age 68, went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Marble Falls, TX, leaving a void that can never be filled. This loss was completely unexpected leaving family and friends shocked and deeply saddened. She will be truly missed in so many ways. With Janis’ departure, we remember a life lived with immense love and a constant sense of caring.
She was born on July 8, 1957, in Pasadena, California, a daughter of the late Henry Lee Kenney and Ruby Lee Boek. Janis was the youngest of six girls; raised in Monrovia, California and attended Monrovia High School. She met her husband, David, at summer church camp when she was fourteen years old. They were later married on June 19, 1976. Their romance lasted 49 years and they were blessed with two wonderful sons.
Throughout her life, Janis embraced a variety of roles and careers, each one approached with dedication, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. From food service, to hair dresser, she brought the same passion for hard work and connection with others, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
Janis loved to frequent thrift stores, antique stores, and plant shops, collecting meaningful pieces, adorning her home and garden with beauty. Throughout her life, she found strength in sermons and religious music; and maintained a personal devotion that was steady, humble, and sincere. Janis was a fierce woman – holding fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, and always seeking to better herself.
Janis is survived by her husband, David Hakker; her sons Matthew Hakker (wife Monique) and Justin Hakker (wife Lisa); her sisters Susan Davis (husband Pete), Linda Massengale (husband Les); her grandchildren Amara, Kiala, and Elijah; her grandchild by marriage, Anya; her brother-in-laws Steve Hakker (wife Kari) and Lonnie Hakker (wife Natalie); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Janis was preceded in death by her three sisters, Patti Massengale, Kat Rasmussen, and Judith Coleman; and mother-in-law Barbara Anderson and father-in-law Wilburn Anderson.
Janis touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us.
