I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. We went to school together. How proud you all must be of the legacy he left all of you. I was happy I was able to visit with him a few years back. God speed my friend.

I had the pleasure of working with John Nlander at the T. Don Hutto unit in Taylor.  He was a wonderful man, inside and out.  It was an honor to know him as a mentor, and a friend. John will be missed by everyone who's lives he touched.  My heartfelt condlence to the Nylander family.

Oh my heart is so heavy after seeing this..he was so sweet and caring. I could always make him smile..he come thru the sallyport and ask was I behaving...of course I'd say....he'd smile and say good job. Little slater is hurt by the loss also. She so loved him. My condolences to all of you for your loss.  John (of course, I called him "Chief Nylander") was Chief of Security when I started work at Bartlett State Jail in 2006.  It didn't take long to find out that his primary color was "green," and it takes one to know one!  Whatever for and wherever the need, Chief was there-- control, alert, plan, execute and restore--and then, "What's next!"   After a succesful life, a wonderful family and good friends, his positive attitude surely has him thinking "what's next" in God's grandest plan of things.

John Nylander (a.k.a. papa Smurf) was the best guy both inside and outside of work. I'm honored to have worked for him as well as his wonderful wife Jeri.  My husband Eric and I are sure going to miss him!!

Our sympathy for the Nylander family. John was a stand up and honest man, one of those persons who had a positive influence on others and a privilege to work with.

I worked with Chief Nylander at Bartlett and he is a good person and friend.  He will be truely  missed by his family here at Bartlett.  Prayers for your family.
