Judith Charlene Carpenter Shelburn passed peacefully on August 27, 2019, at the age of 87 following a series of strokes over the past year. Judy was born to Charles H Carpenter and Laura Smith Halliburton in Palacios, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Gerald Shelburn, both of her parents, sisters Margaret Brown, Latricia Sweatman, Beulah Smith, and brother Eugene Carpenter.

Judy is survived by her family-of-the-heart, Meg Shelburn Hernandez and husband George of Burnet, Barbara Shelburn Hacker and Howard Gardner of New Braunfels and Gwen Shelburn Barton of Burnet; sisters Beatrice Cunningham (husband Julian) of Plant City, FL and Violet Carl of Llano, and brother Charles Carpenter (wife Judy) of Austin; grandchildren Christopher Hernandez (wife Tamara), Mylea Hernandez (Kris Morin), Chase Sadler and Joshua Hacker; great-daughters Kinsley Sadler (mother, Keely Moore), Harper and Hadley Hacker, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Judy had worked as a nurse at Shepperd Hospital and was an award-winning “Avon Lady” in Burnet for over 35 years. She was a 50-year member of the Burnet Order of the Eastern Star #425. Judy loved gardening & yard work, cooking, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. She was always excited to see the songbirds and hummingbirds return to her yard each spring, and was well-known for the boxes of home-made cookies and candy she delivered to friends and customers during each holiday season.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Oaks Nursing Center in Burnet for their care and compassion over the past year. We also express much love to our cousin, Nancy Stacks, whose frequent visits to see her “beautiful Aunt Judy” at Oaks were always a welcome day-brightener.

Arrangements are handled by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, with Visitation 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3rd and Funeral Services in the Clements-Wilcox Chapel at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 4th. Burial will follow at Cauble Cemetery in Lake Victor. Donations can be made to Valley Lodge AF&AM # 175 or Order of the Eastern Star #425 in Burnet, or Lake Victor Lodge AF&AM #1011 if desired.

I remember when I was very young spending the night in the Shelburn home with the girls. Such a lovely family and being an only child it was magical seeing a large family.

When I moved here in 1994 to be the Avon District Manager, I was in awe of the amount of Avon she sold ever 2 weeks !!She was head and shoulders above all the other representatives. Her customers loved her & didn’t want to buy from any other person. Judy was a sweet person & will be sorely missed !!

What a wonderful lady. I enjoyed all the time I got to spend with her. Always had a beautiful smile and something quirky to say that made me laugh. I know I will miss her smile, but gives me peace knowing she’s OK and happy with her loved ones that proceeded her.

I will always remember Judy, as the special lady that she was .She would come by with my Avon order and crack the door open and yell"Avon Calling " and come right on in She knew she was welcome! And the delicious candy at Christmas was so good Thank you Judy for all the wonderful memories that you gave us.Even tho I haven't seen you in a while I will miss you dearly .R.I.P
Prayers for all of the family may God comfort you at this time.

I just read Judy’s obituary to my Mom and Dad, Bub and Peggy Lastly and Mom and Dad recounted playing many games of “pitch “ around Judy and Gerald’s or their dinning room tables over their very long friendship. Myself I will always remember us girls as kids being at the table and Judy pinching us under the table with her LONG toes just to hear us squeal. Love to all the family❤️

Judy was a truly beautiful soul. I’m so sorry for your loss. I have such wonderful memories sitting around my grandmothers table with her and flipping though Aavon books, smiling and just visiting. I am so thankful for her friendship to my grandmother and the love she gave to our family.

Judy befriended me when I was just a teenager working at the hospital. We stayed friends afterwards. I love her so. Every year I made sure I bought my Daddy his Christmas Plate. I am so sorry I didn’t get to see her after moving back home in June. God bless and hold all of you in His tender arms. Lisa
