Linda Holland

December 8, 1948March 5, 2019

Linda Simmons Holland, 70, of Burnet, passed away peacefully with her family beside her at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin on March 5, 2019 following a brief and sudden illness. She was born Thursday, December 08, 1948 to Arthur and Lena Simmons in San Antonio where she was raised as the youngest of 5 siblings. She was a graduate of Edison High School in San Antonio in 1967 and went on to study at San Antonio College. She married Allen Roger Holland, December 4, 1969 and they would have been married 50 years this coming December. Linda and Roger moved to Burnet in 1973 to raise their only child, Matthew. Linda went to work as a paralegal for 20 years at the law offices of Alvin Nored. In February of 1993, she began working at the First State Bank of Burnet, focusing on real estate lending. She eventually became a loan officer at the bank where she remained a dedicated, full time employee at the time of her passing. Linda was extremely involved in the community and was an active member of the Kiwanis club. She served on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce, holding two terms as the President. She was honored to have been a recipient of an “Outstanding Chamber Director Award” for 2005-2006. Her work in planning and organizing fund raising events for the Hill Country Community Foundation, and the Suzanne Johnson Scholarship Endowment were very important to her. Linda had many accomplishments in her lifetime, but we know her greatest joy came with time spent with family. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and felt those were her greatest accomplishments. Linda is survived by her husband Roger Holland of Burnet; her son Matthew Holland and wife, Clairissa also of Burnet; grandchildren Emily Holland of Houston; Jacob Holland of Lubbock and Joel Holland of San Marcos; her sister, Joy Simmons Potts of San Antonio and many nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by her parents Arthur and Lena Simmons, her sister Arthurene Simmons Cornitius and her brothers, Wayland and A.L. Simmons. A memorial service has been planned to celebrate Linda’s life on March 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The Hill Country Community Foundation at P.O. Box 848, Burnet, TX 78611.

My deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the Holland Family and to Linda’s Burnet Bank Family. Linda was a most special someone you rarely, if ever, meet ...especially when discussing mortgage loan options. She made it especially fun “to go to the bank!” She really lit up when sharing stories of her travels! We will miss her presence at the bank, her quick and entertaining wit, and her friendship. This sudden loss just doesn’t seem possible.

Linda is my sister-in-law, my only sister-in-law, which makes her even more special to me. From the moment I met Linda in 1989, I knew that Roger had picked the right girl for him. I told him more than once “don’t ever do anything to make Linda angry or hurt enough to leave you, you will never find another like her”. I love her, cherish our times together, and will miss her terribly. I am heart broken for all of us.

I have known Linda ever since we moved to Burnet in 1975. Matt and Anthony were five years old, and Matt was Anthony's first friend. Those two boys had lots of adventures throughout their school days. Linda and I shared many good times just trying to keep up with those two and keep them out of trouble!
Burnet won't be the same without Linda Holland.

I met Linda when Matthew and I were in the 6th grade. I had a huge crush on him and showed up knocking at her door asking if Matt was home. She looked at me and said, “Matthew! There is a girl here at the door... come get rid of her.” Ha! She became my mother in love in December of 1989. Looking back, I’m so touched by this old memory because only our Heavenly Father knew, in that moment, that I would be left behind to care for the two people in this world that she cared for the most. I will miss her deeply and always, but her last words to me will never leave my mind or my heart...”I love you, I love you, I love you.” And boy did I love her.
