Mac Quentin Munn

Mac was born on August 12, 1927, to William Roy Munn and Jennie Elizabeth (McDaniel) Munn in Burnet County’s Shady Grove community. He was the youngest of 7 children.

Mac graduated from Bertram High School in 1945, of which he was the last surviving classmate. He volunteered for the US Navy on July 30, 1945 (WWII), and after completing basic training in San Diego, CA he was assigned to the USS Begor (APD-127). In early 1946 he was transferred to the Naval Oil Depot in Algiers, LA until Mac’s honorable discharge in June 1946. Returning to civilian life, Mac went back to their Burnet County family farm and in September 1948 went to work for Lone Star Supply Co in Austin as a salesman. On November 24, 1949, he married the love of his life, Lena Marie Cox, then in January 1952 Mac requested active duty with the US Navy (Korean Conflict) and was assigned to the USS Bradford (DD-545) as a Quartermaster Third Class in San Diego, CA, which later received its command to go to Japan until he was honorably discharged in December 1953. While in the US Navy Mac was decorated with the National Defense, United Nations & China service metals, and the Korean Service Ribbon (Two Stars). After Mac’s military service he attended The University of Texas for the 1954 Spring semester on the GI Bill and later attended & graduated from Nixon-Clay Commercial College with a Business Administration & Accounting degree in June 1956. Thereafter he went to work for the Texas Highway Department (TXDOT) and retired in 1989 after 33 years of service.

In 1965 Mac and Marie bought their first camper and joined the Texas Starcraft Camper Club. They enjoyed travelling for 50 plus years with the club and attended many national rallies. They traveled in all the Canadian provinces and all the states except Hawaii. They made many friends from all over the U.S.

After living in Austin for 70 years they moved to Burnet’s Country Oaks at Hamilton Creek in May 2021.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie of 73&1/2 years, his siblings and their spouses Seth (Cumi), Dan Neil (Frances), Pollard, Alta, Vernon (Ruby) Munn, and Vera Munn (A.J. “Bo”) Bothager. Also 4 nephews Graham, Roy and Joseph Munn and William Bothager.

Mac is survived by his daughter Brenda and husband Wayne Price of Bertram and son Ronald and wife Jan Munn of Spicewood. Grandchildren Tamara (Dean) Schoonmaker of Cedar Creek, Melissa (Fred) White of Bryan, Megan (Randy) Fitzpatrick of Columbia, SC and Quentin Charles Munn of Bakersfield, CA. Great grandchildren James Schoonmaker of Branson, MO, Daithen (Taylor) Schoonmaker of Cedar Creek, Jayden Schoonmaker of Cedar Creek, and Jackson Monroe and Lawsyn Fitzpatrick of Columbia, SC and a great great grandson, Bentley Schoonmaker of Cedar Creek.

Visitation at Clement-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, TX on January 2, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:30 AM followed by a Noon graveside service at Shady Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Roy Cox, Quentin Charles Munn, Scott Munn, Daithen Schoonmaker, Dean Schoonmaker, Jayden Schoonmaker, Tommy Thompson, and Fred White.

We will miss your hugs, smile, laugh, stories and the “Munn Stare”, but you will always be in our hearts. We love you.
