Margery Ruth (Bell) Felps was born February 16, 1926 in Bangor, Maine to Ruel Lee Bell and Lena Pearl (Fowler) Bell. Margery left us early Friday, July 15, 2011 and joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven.
Margery grew up in Bangor, Maine. She attended the Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor, Maine where she sang in the choir. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1944. She met her future husband, Jerome K. Felps soon thereafter. Jerome was stationed at the Dow Army Air Field in Bangor. Margery’s mother volunteered at the airfield and introduced them. They were married in Burnet, Texas in 1945. She and Jerome lived in Burnet all of their married life. They soon joined the Methodist Church of Burnet.
Margery was a house wife and mother who helped manage the family businesses for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School for 46 years. She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years. She was a member of the Burnet Pen Chat Club (Federated Women’s Club) for 35+ years and President of the club 3 different times. She was a life member of the Capitol District Federated Women’s Club and served on the Capitol District board for 10 years. She was the Treasurer for six years and Trustee of the Club House in Austin and served as the Vice President of the Club for two years.
She was known to her family and their friends as Nana. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jerome Felps. She is survived by her four children, Suzanne (Felps) Fiala and husband Raymond Fiala and daughter Elaine Hyden; Lynda (Felps) Lester and husband Fred Lester, daughters Janice (Lester) Maynard and husband Ricky Maynard and four great-grandchildren, Nancy (Lester) Dodson and husband Clint Dodson and two great-grandchildren; William Lee Felps and wife Marsha (Mulhollan) Felps, daughter Amber (Felps) Cardenas and husband Max Cardenas and two great-grandchildren, and son Tyrel James Felps and wife Amber (Oldaker) Felps; Robert Felps and wife Janice (Roberts) Felps, son Robert Heath Felps, daughters Lauren Michelle Felps and Lindsey Meredith Felps.
