Marjory Ruth Brown
January 28, 1934 – September 23, 2021
Marjory Ruth (Lee) Brown, 87, died peacefully in her bed at home on Thursday, September 23, 2021, one day after celebrating her 72nd wedding anniversary with the love of her life, John.
She was born January 28, 1934, to Jim and Ella Lee in Alva, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, John; her children, Shirley (Ferrill) Standage of Kingsland, TX, Mollie McCoy of Corpus Christi, TX, and Anita Levens of Burnet, TX; her grandchildren, Cynthia Garcia, Jeremy (Tracey) Levens, Chris (Lexi) Levens and Thomas (Berrilyn) Levens; and her great-grandchildren, David Levens, Nora Levens, Romo Levens, Lucas Levens, Doss Levens, Grayson Levens and Paxton Levens.
She enjoyed music – playing piano, violin and singing in the choir. She taught all three of her daughters to play the piano. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting and cooking. Above all she could never find enough books to read.
She had a passion for traveling. She and John reached their goal of traveling through all 50 states and drove to Alaska four times. She and John enjoyed the experience of living in Venezuela for four years. A particular highlight of their time in Venezuela was returning home aboard the Reynolds cargo ship via the Amazon River to pick up a load of bauxite and then through the Caribbean to the company port in Ingleside, TX.
While in Venezuela Marjory and John joined a non-denominational church whose pastor happened to be Presbyterian. When they retired in Alva, OK they joined the First Presbyterian Church. Among her many ministries while in Alva, Marjory served as Clerk of Cimarron Presbytery, Presbyterian Church (USA). They continued their affiliation with the Presbyterian Church when they moved to Burnet.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday October 30, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Burnet Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to First Presbyterian Church of Alva or Burnet Presbyterian Church.
