September 29, 1959 – July 11, 2020
Mark Lawrence Ashby has passed to the afterlife. He was born in Northfield MN on September 29th, 1959, to JoAnn and James Ashby. His parents, both Army veterans, moved to Denton, then Richardson, Texas when Mark was a child, which made a significant impact to Mark, as he kept returning to Texas during his life. When the family moved to California, he was very involved with school activities, including becoming Captain of the Cross-Country team that won the California State high school championship and produced three Olympians. He joined the Navy out of high school and served as a Fire Control Technician on the submarine, USS Dace, and surface ships including the USS Sierra. He was honorably discharged and was anxious to immediately participate in the Texas business community. He started a computer repair business in the Austin area with his best friend from the Navy. After several years, he was offered a job in the Silicon Valley that was, "just too good to refuse." He became the computer industry's leading expert in maintaining systems and educating technicians producing the modern silicon wafer (computer chip). His move also allowed him to meet his wife, Phoumy, whom he married in 1993. Their 25 year marriage was highlighted by their generosity, church involvement and great cooking! Mark was renowned for his grill master expertise when outside and sous chef skills inside. When he lost his wife to cancer in 2018, Mark returned, once again, to Texas, living in the beautiful hills north of Burnet. He found great joy and contentment in walking the hills with his dog and interacting with all the folks in the area. His final resting place is tentatively planned to be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
