Margaret Batts Duncan “Meg” Stephens died peacefully March 2, 2011, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She was born February 14, 1945 in Burnet, Texas. Meg is survived by her daughters, Margaret-Lynn McDoniel and husband, Mike; Caroline Duncan Tinkle, 2 grandchildren, Katie and Ross McDoniel, her sister Caroline Duncan Bradshaw and husband, Ron, her brother Donald C. Duncan, Jr., and wife Ellen, their families, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Margaret Duncan, and her beloved son, William Rufus Stephens, Jr.
Meg was raised in Burnet County on her family’s ranch. She grew up with a deep appreciation of the land and outdoors, which continued throughout her life. Horseback riding, fishing and being in the bluebonnets were things she truly missed but was unable to do because of her MS.
Her “beautiful daughters and handsome son” and their accomplishments were her pride.
Her 30 + year struggle with MS was challenging, difficult, and at times, heroic. Her faith was strong at the time of her death.
The family wishes to thank Martha, Cathy, and all the caring staff at Retirement and Nursing Center in Austin, Meg’s home for the last 11 years. Your friendships meant the world to her.
