

Melvin was born on August 8, 1921 in Williamson County, Texas to Calvin Case Sr. and Limley Ollie (Watson).
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings and their spouses, Leona Brawner (Bill), Virginia Balcar (Lewis), Calvin Jr. (Shirley), Imogene Sheppard (Billy), Leon (Hermina), Bob (Janie) and Yvonne Stratta (Joe) and many nieces and nephews.
On a Sunday morning in 1953, Melvin saw the love of his life at Mt. Blanc Baptist Church in Bertram, Texas. After one month of courtship, Melvin and Lola married on March 21st and were inseparable for 69 years.
During WWII, Melvin joined the Navy and served in the Army Air corps and the Air Corps Reserves during the Koran conflict. He was a airplane mechanic during those years.
There was very little Melvin could not do. For most of his life, he was a farmer and rancher. He remembered the days when he was young that they worked cattle on open range, ate from a chuck wagon and slept on the ground. Melvin worked on the Bowman Ranch during the early 60’s. They moved to Brownwood in 1964 to work on the Clear Creek Ranch, then on the Herman Bennett Ranch from which he retired in 1979.
After returning to Burnet in 1991, Melvin worked at Sure Cast and then was a custodian for Burnet High School athletic department. Melvin loved young people because he said “they kept you young.” He and Lola touched the lives of many children during their marriage. He was their “Pop” and loved by so many.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Lola Bird, son, Butch (Donna) and daughter Rebecca. Three step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren, many friends, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Pastor Jimmy Frazer, Tim Denton and aids and nurses of Compassus Hospice and Visiting Angles for their love and care of Melvin. He was loved by so many.
A visitation at Clements-Wilcox funeral home-Burnet for Melvin will be held Friday, October 28, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service Northside Baptist Church will be on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held at Shady Grove Cemetery immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made in Melvin's honor to the Disabled American Veterans, US, "https://www.dav.org".
