Michael P. Mitchell (Mike) was born on May 30, 1958 in Detroit, MI to Victor and Alice Mitchell. He passed away on Thursday evening, February 16, 2023 at his home in Burnet, TX at the age of 64 in the loving presence of his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Following his high school graduation, Mike joined the United States Navy and served four years. He then earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Florida State University. He later earned a Masters Degree in Business from Rockhurst University. He married Debbie Merritt Mitchell in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada on March 16, 2000.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Alice, and his brother, Russell.
Mike is survived by his wife, Debbie, his children, Ryan Mitchell (Michele), Kendal Hervert (John), Jason Fort (Michelle), Hunter Fort (Cheryl) and seven grandchildren Isabella Fort, Bryson Mitchell, Eloise Fort, Noah Fort, Lucas Mitchell, Finn Fort, Hank Hervert. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Mitchell (Barry), and brothers Pat Mitchell (Mindy), Ralph Mitchell (Beth), John Mitchell (Tammy), and sister-in-law Pam Warner (Kenny) and numerous friends.
Mike had a long career with Sprint, Hewlett-Packard and GlobalFounderies as an IT Executive. He retired in 2018 from GlobalFounderies where he managed their worldwide IT operations. Mike was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Papa, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and friend. He was loved by all who met him both personally and professionally. He had a passion and love for life, family and God. He died like he lived, never complaining about the circumstances dealt him, but lived in faith that he was not afraid to die as he knew his Heavenly home awaited him. Mike and Debbie lived in several states during their marriage and anywhere they lived wonderful neighbors and coworkers quickly became their friends and family. Mike loved helping everyone he met and soon became known as the guy who could fix anything. He loved helping people remodel their homes, doing home repairs and just about anything they might ask him to do, he did it with a loving heart. Mike and Debbie loved outdoor activities and spent much of their free time hiking, bicycling, skiing, taking long walks in the parks with their fur babies and spending time with family and friends. Of all the places Mike loved to vacation, Cabo, MX was his favorite.
It was Mike’s wish to be cremated, there will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Tony Singer presiding at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 E. Polk St, Burnet, TX 78611. A reception will follow after the service in the gathering room at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Mike wished his ashes be interred at a National Cemetery in Florida which will occur at a later date.
