Michael Earl Stedman, born October 29, 1947 in Dallas, TX, passed away surrounded by his wife and children on Friday afternoon August 9, 2019 at the age of 71.

Mike grew up in Sweeny, Texas where he met his wife of 51 years, Linda Stedman. After High School he volunteered to serve his country by joining the Navy serving on combat deployments to Vietnam.

After returning home, Mike’s calling to service eventually led to a life-long law enforcement career. Mike’s drive to serve the community in any way led him to also certify as an EMT and later help establish the Burnet County Dive Team where he received an international rescue award.

Mike served as an Investigator with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department and a Patrol Officer with the Humble Police Department. Later he served as a Captain with the Burnet County Sheriff’s Department. After a time serving the LCRA Ranger Department as Sergeant he returned to the Burnet County Sheriff’s Department where he served as Chief Deputy.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Jean and Tot Minshew. He is survived by his wife, Linda Stedman of Granite Shoals, formerly of Burnet, son Mike Stedman of Salt Lake City, daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Jesse Canchola of Granite Shoals. Grandchildren surviving are Caitlyn Stedman, Adrian Canchola, Mariah Canchola, and Olivia Canchola. Mike also grew up with a big family of four sisters, three brothers, and a crapton of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

So many memories and lessons learned from this man. He taught me many things starting out in my Fire/EMS and search and rescue career. I still use the things he taught me to this day including the life lessons he mentored us all with. He was a good example of a leader, someone you knew wouldn’t run and would have your back. I have always held him with the highest respect. Rest easy brother.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Stedmans family during this time and always.

Our thoughts and prayers to the Stedman family during this difficult time. Mike was a colleague and true mentor to me with our combined passion of serving others in Law Enforcement, EMS and Dive Operations. His commitment to his family, his community and his brothers and sisters in Public Safety was unparalleled. He will be greatly missed. RIP my friend.
