Milton was born September 8, 1937 into a large, loud and very loving Swedish family. He was the 10th of 11 children. His family was extremely close growing up and continued to be throughout their lives. Milton is preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings. He grew up in Andice and played every single sport for the Florence Buffalos.
Milton met the love of his life in Bertram in 1957. He and Charla Stark (McAllister) were married June 30, 1961 and just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They built their home and raised a family in Bertram, Texas. Their children are Kim Dickinson of Bertram, Rhonda Sturm of Dallas and Angela Ferguson of Houston. Milton was also dearly loved by his sons-in-law and his precious grandchildren. He loved being a grandfather and was the best ‘Papa’ ever. His family was his greatest joy, and if you were around him, you knew it.
Milton retired from Texaco Chemical Company in Austin, Texas after 32 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he knew sitting in a rocking chair with his newly found free time would not suit him. So, instead of sitting around, he purchased and managed the Bertram Car Wash, mini storage units, the laundromat and multiple rent houses. That kept him busy for a while, but then another business venture was added – the Nutcracker Station in 1999. The Nutcracker Station became a true family business. Milton’s wife Charla and daughter Kim continue to run the business, with more kids and grandkids pitching in to help during peak season.
In addition to his love of family, Milton was a truly a man of God, and loved telling people about Jesus. He shared his love of Jesus to virtually everyone he encountered and positively impacted countless lives. He was absolutely selfless and did everything in his power to demonstrate the love and grace of the Lord. He gave freely of his time and resources to help anyone in need, and he was always available to pray with anyone and offer encouragement and an uplifting word. Milton, along with Charla, established a strong heritage of faith in their family and well beyond – an impact that will endure for generations.
A graveside service at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill on HWY 29, will be held to honor Milton on Wednesday, August 25 at 10:00 am with Pastor Rodney McGee officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association @ www.alz.org.
