Don was born on June 1, 1936, in Oakalla, Texas to Otis and June (Montgomery) Wooten. A lifelong resident of Bertram, Don joined the United States Army following high school where he eventually earned his badge as a Rifle Marksman as well as the Good Conduct Medal.
During his 2 years, 11 months, and 8 days of Army service which included being stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Don’s specialty title was Heavy Vehicle Driver. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1958, Don parlayed that experience into a 30+ year career with Texas Crushed Stone which is still in operation in Georgetown, Texas.
In 1972 Don met and married his wife of over 50 years, Patsy Sandobal, also a lifelong Bertram resident.
Don is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Patsy (Sandobal) Wooten, whom passed a mere 22 days before him.
Also preceding Don in death are his parents, Otis and June (Montgomery) Wooten and father and mother-in-law Ferman and Manuela (Solis) Sandobal. He is also preceded in death by brother Terry Wooten and brother-in-laws Remijio and Basilio Sandobal, Arnold Salinas, and Francisco Peña, as well as bonus grandson Connor Lyle.
Don is survived by his son Anthony and his wife Annie, son Michael, his wife Susan and her daughter Lyndon, and grandchildren Fahren, Devin, and Samuel.
Also surviving Don is sister Patricia and sister-in-laws Loretta, Paula, Fidelia, and their respective families.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Don Wooten’s honor be made to the local Veterans charity of your choice or Altus Hospice.
The family also wishes to thank the staff of Complete Family Services, Christopher Chaffee, Altus Hospice, and Dr. Alan Leifeste. Many family friends also came to help during this time and we wish to thank each and every one of you.
Services for Don will be held on November 2, 2022 at 1pm in the chapel at Clements-Wilcox in Burnet with Tim Denton officiating. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers for Don will be his sons Anthony & Michael and beloved grandsons Samuel and Devin, as well as Darrell Flores, Robert Salinas, Andy Halbert, and John Sandobal.
