OBITUARY

Patricia Kirby

July 31, 1943October 17, 2021

Our beloved Patricia Innis Kirby, age 78, of Burnet, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, with her family by her side as her beautiful granddaughter sang Amazing Grace. Pat fought a courageous two-year battle with leukemia and overcame breast cancer at the same time.

Pat was a truly beautiful woman, inside and out, from her early college days winning beauty pageants to her days making sure she was “presentable” going to chemo treatments. Pat had many, many others in her life who saw her as their momma, grandma, friend, confidant, and caregiver. She held a very special place in her heart for each and every one and all that they held dear. Pat cared for others deeply, worried about everything that could harm them in any way, took great care of Robert and everyone she knew, and would turn feisty if anyone she loved was mistreated. She treasured every call, card and visit – in health and in sickness. Throughout her illness, she worried and prayed for all the others who were “probably hurting more than she was”. Pat had many talents, ceramics, sewing, needlepointing, crocheting, cooking, growing beautiful plants, and many more. She passed them on to others who were willing to learn from her. Mostly, she created a welcoming, loving, comfortable home for her husband, family and all the friends from all generations who were a part of her life.

She worked several jobs throughout her years, but her life’s devotion was to her husband of 56 years, Robert Kirby, and her daughters, Laura Chron and husband Tony, of Coppell, Texas and Janell Owen and husband Michael, of Kingsville, Texas. She loved her grandchildren, Tori Christensen and husband Tyler, Riley Chron, Kirby Owen, and Kace Owen, and soon to be great grandson, Tucker Owen Christensen. Pat was born to the late Weldon and Mabel Innis in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 31, 1943 and has one sister, Peggy Bell (Ron Bell) of Spring, Texas.

She will be honored in a memorial service in Kingsville, TX on Saturday, November 6th at 10:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, as well as a memorial service in Burnet, TX on Saturday, November 13th at 10:00 am at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Pat would love for you to do something special for one of your loved ones, or make a donation to the American Cancer Society, in her honor.

How does our family begin to express the love and admiration we have for Pat. A true and beautiful friend over 50 years. The memories are so many! We will never forget when meeting Pat and Robert when they first moved to Kingsville. They lived by our grandparents who embraced them as if they were their own children. We always thought if Barbie and Ken were not dolls then this is them in real life. Pat always so beautiful (inside and out) and Robert so handsome. So many memories with riding out a hurricane together, Lake Mathis, food, fellowship and always fun! And sharing in the excitement of both of their daughters coming into this world. Our friendship continued to grow through all these years, with so much love for their family. Pat will be so missed by Robert, her daughters, grandchildren and so, so many friends. Pat, you made a great impact on so many lives through your grace, caring ways, love of Jesus Christ and such a true lady. We will not say good-bye because we will be together again for eternity, at our permanent home, with Jesus Christ.

Love you Pat,
The Cooper Family

You opened your heart to my family and myself as soon as I met you and Dr. Kirby. You always made sure we felt as if we were a part of your family. The encouragement and support from you was so special because you were like a mom to me. I’m so blessed to have had you in my life…it was as if my mom was there through you. You will be terribly missed by so many. Fly high with the angels. Love you Mrs. Kirby.

Every gathering with Pat, whether small or large, is treasured. Her heart was always open, loving and giving, never judging. We shared much laughter and great stories as we enjoyed that special bottle of red zin from Paso Robles or gathered for monthly birthday lunches, bragging on all the grandchildren, while She never failed to offer support for troubled times among us. Did I say, we never took the time to sit down but stood at the kitchen counter with that zin, giggling over what the others would think as we took the last sip? Or being chosen to accompany Pat and Robert to choose brick for their home finishing off with a trip to Gumbo’s, after tailgating in the parking lot... our hearts are full of those treasured moments. God is so Good to put friends like Pat in our paths along our earthly journey. Looking forward to a reunion!

Pat, what A great lady.
From the first day we met her and Robert we had wonderful friends.
Shared lots of things together, but most of all they would listen to Rex tell stories and he loved it.
Although I did not get to be with her during her illness she knew her Arkansas friend was praying for her.
And girls it will be hard on you, take care of your Dad. Love Dolores

My initial meeting with Pat was as our neighbor on Trant Road. She and Robert were the BEST neighbors. So many visits and stories and shared times. As I got older and more involved in the community Pat and I would begin a journey taking Miss Kingsville to the Miss Texas pageants. We had so much fun and loved taking these young girls to the competition. Pat was a loving neighbor to my Mom for many years. She was a great friend and a huge mentor in my younger years. My admiration of her helped lead me to become a strong woman with no fears. She was such a believer in her family !

I first met Mrs. Pat when Dr. Kirby served as interim Provost at TAMUCC. She was such a dear heart and oh so genuine. She was always so friendly and a blessing to me, Her trips to Corpus Christi usually included her being able to see the turtle releases. She loved her family so much and I always enjoyed her phone calls and conversations.

Let perpetual light shine upon her and through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen
