

Richard went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 18, 2016. He had a peaceful death from a well-lived life, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 91 years old. “Dick” was the only child of Albert and Beatrice Cobb, he was born in Gastonia, NC on March 31st, 1925. He was raised in Providence, RI and entered the Navy at 17 and served proudly during WW2.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Shirley and survived by Emma his wife of 57 years, his children Becky, David and Gregg. Grandchildren Denise, Julie, Kristi, Heather, Daniel, Dana, Sandy and great grandchildren Valarie, Gage and Casen.
In 1951 he began his career in banking in Houston with the Security State Bank. He then served as Vice President and cashier with Montrose National Bank, American National Bank as Vice President. In 1959 he helped organize the Lamar State Bank, Beaumont, TX as Vice President and was elected President in 1963. While in Beaumont, he was involved in the following community endeavors. Chairman Spindletop BSA , President Beaumont Symphony, Chairman North Jefferson County Cancer Society, Board of Tuberculosis Society, Chairman Beaumont Cancer Society, Chairman of the coordinating committee for Texas Region 5 Vocational Rehabilitation.
In 1969, he was elected President of the State Capitol Bank in Oklahoma City, OK. He then went to the Commercial State Bank in Victoria, TX as President. He arrived in Dallas in 1970 with the Fair Park National Bank as President. He saw this bank change it’s name to Dallas National Bank and then to Republic Bank Dallas East. He served there until his retirement in 1987 as Chairman of the Board.
Richard was always involved in the community where he lived. Dallas was no exception. He was on the East Dallas Community Design Committee, President of the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Board of Development at Dallas Baptist College, ABA Community Bankers Advisory Board, President of Fair Park Rotary, District Governor Rotary International, Dist. 581, Paul Harris Fellow, Listed Dallas Morning News Who’s Who in Texas 1974, Graduated School of Banking, SMU.
Upon retirement from Republic Bank Dallas East he and his wife Emma answered the call of the Lord to become volunteer missionaries in the Mission Service Corps, a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. They have served in Chile, Ecuador, Australia, Maine, Connecticut and various churches in Texas. They completed 20 years of service.
Richard survived congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, esophageal cancer, bladder cancer, a broken hip and a broken heart, when his youngest daughter died.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 21 from 5 to 7 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 22 at 1pm at the First Baptist Church in Bertram. Interment will take place at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. Memorial contributions may be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church in Bertram.
