Richard Lee Samford 65, passed away August 28, 2021. He was born in the Allen Clinic and Hospital in Burnet Texas on December 17, 1955, to Louise and Stanton Samford. He was their third and youngest child. He is predeceased in death by his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his brother Ronald and wife Sally and nephew Jonathan and great-nephews Jake and Max. He is also survived by his brother David, nephew Stephen and his daughter Kaitlyn, niece Stephanie and husband Jesse Hale, niece Sabrina and husband Mike Hardcastle and her son Peyton, and nephew Spencer Samford. He is also survived by his Uncle Charles James Crawford and Wife Grace of Bellville, Aunt Leona McDaniel of Burnet, and Uncle CW Samford of Universal City, Texas.
Richard graduated with honors from Burnet High School. Throughout his school years, he was actively involved in the Burnet High School Band. Richard held both fond and grateful memories related to his opportunity to perform in the Cotton Festival in Memphis, Tennessee.
Richard was somewhat of a math whiz and could add columns of figures faster than they could be entered into a calculator. He could solve for square roots (no pen or paper needed) in seconds, naturally, this gift was astounding to most people. His intensely detailed and organized mind allowed his family to bear witness to many extraordinary talents. He could take someone’s birthday, ponder for a few seconds, and manage to disclose the exact day they were born.
In addition to his mathematical marvels, Richard’s conversations were equally meaningful. His intellect and general retention of all sorts of information were awe-inspiring. Moreover, his quick wit and ability to find humor in all things made for both comical and insightful exchanges. Richard’s written communications held their unique value, wherein in a day and age of digital overload, he was diligent to script and craft a lovely sentiment and moment.
In later years, Richard worked as a call center representative for a bank card center in Copperas Cove, Texas, and in Round Rock, Texas.
Richard was a very caring person, always inquiring about his cousins, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed road trips and spending holidays with his family. Richard promoted the value of education and always encouraged the children to make the most of the opportunity.
There is a saying that says ‘never blend in, always stand out’. Richard, thanks for being a true one-of-a-kind. We will miss you greatly.
